| There will be six groups climbing Mount Kilimanjaro: Jaro 1, Jaro 2, Jaro 3, Jaro 4, Jaro 5 and Jaro 6 (see Itinerary for details). Particpants of this segment of Pedal Safari may - but are not obliged to - cycle in one of the two cycling categories (Race and Non-race) as well. Those who opt for Jaro 1 should plan on arriving in East Africa by July 22, 2008. The Jaro 1 group will finish and reach Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in time for the orientations and the 1st Leg of Pedal Safari, so that participants may ride as well. Jaro 2 will leave Dar es Salaam after orientation and commence the climb on August 5. This group will skip the 1st Leg of Pedal Safari and join the ride from Arusha, Tanzania. Jaro 3 will depart August 9 from Arusha, a day after we conclude the 1st Leg of Pedal Safari, and rejoin the rest in Arusha, in time for the 2nd Leg of Pedal Safari. This group, like Jaro 1 and Jaro 6, can ride in all four Legs. Jaro 4 will begin its climb on August 13 and rejoin the rest in Nairobi, Kenya. If you will be participating in the Race Category, you may want to consider the fact that this group will have only part of a day of rest after the Kilimanjaro excursion, before embarking on the toughest part of the Safari. Jaro 5 will begin the ride on August 17 and rejoin the rest in Soroti, for the race category and Budaka, for the Non-race Category. Jaro 6 will take place after the riders' Grand Finale on August 28 and finish on September 3. This group needs to be in Kampala by August 23. ![]() Home > The Safari > Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro |
